We live in uncertain times, years which will probably be written down in the history of evolution of workplaces, how quick the business world adapted to the scenario of the Pandemic.
The world is changing and we are witnessing it in the closest way possible, the demand of careers, the demand of an industry, the demand of people willing to adapt have taken a rollercoaster of its own. What used to be in demand in the year 2019 is no more thought about.
Since the Pandemic began unemployment saw a hoist, millions of people lost their careers due to uncertain conditions, but we as humans are quick to adapt.
There will be more disruptions and a greater need for reskilling than there was before Covid-19. In fact, in the U.S. alone, study suggests that 17 million workers may need to change occupations by 2030, not just changing employers but fully switching occupations, which typically takes longer, causes more disruption, and is more likely to require reskilling. That is 28% more workers changing occupations than had been forecast in pre-Covid-19 research.
A wave of Work from home has swept the entire world, everyone is working remotely.
That led to a splurge of demand in Remote jobs. Companies lost their employees and some of them were smart enough to hire remote workers to smoothly facilitate the working of the organization.
As I said before, we adapted swiftly!
But what of the future? What kinds of careers will be in demand post pandemic?
What industry should you focus on having a job in?
1. Online tutors/ EdTech
Students all over the world are even today taking online classes and steadily it will shift back to offline education, which it already is! True, but the post pandemic world will also open up new opportunities of online teachers who can work remotely.
An entire school could be set up online without any expenses and start the system.
This is an anticipated outcome which is surely interesting to some people but it also comes with its drawbacks. Online education is hindering the health of students, physical education holds equal importance in shaping the personality of a child and that is compromised when the education moves online.
2. Health Administration
Battling on the foreground of Covid-19 are doctors and nurses, and to keep a hospital going, it also requires an administration. People who manage resources for the hospital. The pandemic has seen a drop in the jobs of health administrators, but if speculated rightly by some of the universities the health sector will open up several job opportunities for health management graduates.
This sector comprises of medical tourism, hospitals, medical devices, health insurance, clinical trials and healthcare information technology.
India is thriving in this sector and expected to ace up among the top three healthcare markets.
3. IT Sector
IT generally requires you to have a set of instruments required for the job and if you equipped with it, you can work remotely. Zoom, perhaps the most popular video conferencing app today, has over 160 jobs posted on Indeed. Meanwhile, Microsoft, Google, and Apple have many positions open as well.
Demand for game developers has also been on the rise. Indeed has 4,293 while Glassdoor has over 14,000 available positions.
The pandemic didn’t really affect the IT Industry, it was in demand before and is a continuously growing industry which opens up several job opportunities in these times as well as in the post pandemic world. Your degree is much more facilitated if you have a hint of business studies, to understand the working of an organization as well.
4. Financial Services
The growth in digital payments is fast, thus boosting Financial Technology. PhonePe, Paytm, Google Pay are gaining stability.
Digital lending is taking wings. Online investment products that come under Fintech are gaining momentum.
Going by NASSCOM’s prediction FinTech software and services sector is set to reach $ 45 billion by 2020.
5. E-Services
The online commerce industry has been a recent trend, and it is here to stay.
Be it amazon, flip kart or Big basket, the online services have seen a tremendous boost in profits and a sudden growth in the industry which is opening many doors of employment, and in the future as well will bring in several opportunities to attain jobs.
6. OTT Opportunity
Covid-19 has brought a drastic shift to the entertainment sector where (OTT) platforms have been the gainers. The future is digital, and India is estimated to have, in a decade, over billion digital users. The younger generation which is a huge part of the Indian population will boost the consumption.
Hot star, Netflix, Prime are opening up many vacancies as the team in only getting is wider and wider with growing content produced, if the speculation is true, then it can also take over the Cinemas in totality leaving the theatres empty.
These are some of the speculations done by continuous studies, this doesn’t been that other careers will be totally vanished, it will be less in demand is all.
If you are not inclined towards these careers and jobs that doesn’t mean that the career you choose fails.
As I said before, we are in uncertain times, this is what we speculate now and it can change in a matter of seconds:)
